Influences in the production of our film
influences in the production of our film
we planned to go last weekend which was the 7/12/13 and film the rest of the film that we needed however we could not as Sam fell ill and had to go to hospital so we couldn't film that weekend we could have done it the next day but i was busy doing family things and Sam was still ill. we now plan to go this weekend 14/12/13 and hopefully get all the filming done. another problem that set us back was the fact that our main actor Albert could not make it and he was our main actor and we were using his camera so we couldn't film at all last weekend. when we did go out and film 17/11/13 we couldn't find any police tape which meant we had to delay further however we managed to go to B&Q and find some electrical wire tape which when cut in half looked similar to police tape we also managed to find a instillation suit which looks similar to forensic suits so we used that to create a crime scene feel towards the audience. our media lessons switch between two classes and only one of those classes has the right computer software to edit our footage so it is taking longer than usual to edit our film together which is setting us back even further.

Focus pull
focus pull
focus pull is when in a shot/scene a object or person is in main focus and the background or foreground is blurred out so that the audience is mainly focused on that object or person. in some cases you could blur out the object or person out of focus and have the background in focus so that the audience is paying attention to the back ground. often in films they switch between them usually the order goes from the background in focus and the fore ground out of focus and then it switches to foreground in focus and background out of focus, this is usually used in a horror film as the viewer would not see the killer or scary thing in the background as it is blurred out until it comes into focus then when the viewer re-watches it they notice it which scares them.

Now you see me
now you see me
the opening scene of now you see me shows the audience exotic locations for example the first location the audience sees is a city they can tell this due to the big buildings in the background they establish this location to the audience first using a wide angle long shot and as it is the only location out of the four shown that has had a long wide shot of the location and it was also in the background this would suggest to the viewer that this city the character first shown is in is the main location of the film (it is where most of the film is going to take place) the other locations are still exotic but are not shown off as much for example the audience can only tell that the second location is exotic because of what the characters are wearing for example the main character in this scene is wearing some kind of holiday hat and has a shirt on but no tie suggesting to the audience that he is not there on business but rather more of a relaxed break, in the background there are exotic leaves which is the only give away that they are in a exotic country but you don't see allot of it as it is poring down with rain which creates a fog like cover over the leaves which shows the humidity in the exotic country. the third location in the opening sequence is in a city again however this time its on a boat with less crowds suggesting that the main character who is suppose to be the next best magician isn't that popular or well known to the public which makes the viewers feel sorry for him when another character ruins his trick by working it out but just like in a real magic trick the viewers were fooled into thinking the main character lost $100 when what they didn't see was the main character stole the other characters wallet and watch making a fool out of that other character this makes the viewer interested in how he did it and because they sided with him earlier in the scene they felt happy that he got the other characters money it also makes the audience feel like it was part of the plan all along. the fourth location was not in a open area on show to massive crowds or anyone who walked passed instead it was in a warehouse of some sort and people had to pay to see this magician this doesn't tell the audience if its in a exotic location or not however it does tell the audience that the character performing magic tricks is popular and therefore must be good at them it also tells the audience that she doesn't have to steal money like the past two characters who have been forced to blackmail or pick pocket money off people suggesting that they are not rich and are not well known for their magic. the type of people who come to see this character seem to be teenagers and young adults this can be told by what they are wearing as most of them are wearing hoodies and shirts with jeans where as older adults don't typically wear that sort of clothing this suggests that the film is targeted at a young audience teenagers and young adults this is because the younger audiences can relate the characters in the film with themselves making the audience more interested in the film.
most of the shots in the opening sequence of the film are close up shots this is because the director wants to build up tension whilst the magic tricks are taking place which adds to the suspense in the film making the viewer interested in how the magic tricks are done, in some cases there are extreme close ups to build the tension quickly between the audience and the film creating very tens moments in the opening of the film making the viewer wonder if the magic trick will be a success or not or if something dramatic is about to happen in the film. the idea of the close up shots is so that the viewer can feel like they know whats going to happen with the trick and to make the viewer feel like they know how the tricks are done but just like the saying in the film the closer you look the less you see and as the trick becomes revealed the viewer is amazed at how it was done (plot twist) for example at the beginning when one of the main characters had a pack of cards the viewer thought he was going to do a simple card trick when actually he ended up making the girls card appear on the side of the building which shocked the viewer and made them feel as if the magic trick was done in real life in front of them which was the aim of the director to bring the audience in to the film.
in the beginning of the film there is a lot of shot reverse shots used to establish with the audience who the main character is talking to, the shot reverse shots are used to allow a consistent flow of dialogue which the audience can follow this creates the flow of the scene and allows each shot to flow together making the film seem real to the audience. as well as shot reverse shot another technique was used in the opening of the film and was one of the first the audience saw but did not notice this was called focus pull this is where the camera blurs out the background and keeps the foreground in focus or the other way around making the audience with out even realising it focus on the characters/objects in the foreground or the characters/objects in the background and sometimes within a single shot the focus pull can change either from background to foreground or foreground to background it can do this as many times as it wants just like in the opening scene of the film where the focus pull kept switching between one of the main characters and the deck of cards this makes sure the audience is focused on the magic trick and nothing else.

Iron man
iron man
the opening scene starts of directly in the action so the audience are interested in the film before it has started and it will keep them glued to the film. the main character bosses the other characters around him (the soldiers) this shows the audience that he is not under arrest but being protected which intern also shows that he is important and maybe powerful (rich).
the target audience for iron man is teenage audiences and young adults but however older adults can be attracted to the film because they might have grown up reading iron man comics and they want to see it become a film this apply's for teenage audiences and young adults however it appeals to teenagers most because the film contains alot of fast pace action and some clever puns put in where necessary which would appeal to older audiences as well, the typical gender would be male because it is normally males that read comics and men enjoy the fast pace storyline of the film, some girls may go see the film but it would mostly be male audiences. the stereotypical representation of soldiers in the opening 2 mins of iron man goes against the stereotypical view this is because the soldiers seem more relaxed and skinny rather than muscular and on edge this makes the viewer appeal more towards the soldiers and when they get killed the viewer is against the killers (the viewer thinks the soldiers as positive and the killers as negative). the main character is wearing a smart suit which shows that he has alot of money where as the soldiers are wearing uniform suggesting that they are there for him and because of the friendly talk between them it shows the audience that the soldiers are there to protect him and not to guard him as there prisoner this also shows the audience that because he is being guarded that he must be very important and powerful and possibly rich. at the start the mood of the film is calm and relaxed and the main character acts like a cocky know it all and the soldiers treat him like a celebrity but once the bullets start firing he becomes scared and looks towards the soldiers for help and suddenly the mood swings to fast pace action which raises the tension which gets the viewer more into the film. the cocky approach makes the viewer warm towards that character because he is not too cocky that the viewer would hate him but just enough that it is funny.
Indiana jones raiders of the lost ark
Indiana Jones
as tension builds in the opening scenes the camera zooms into Indiana's face showing the audience the surprise that character has when something dramatic happens in the film and the camera zooms out when the tension/ suspense has gone this notifies the audience that the danger has gone and that they can relax and because of this the viewer feels like they are apart of the film which makes the film look real from the viewers point of view, by including the viewer in the film (making them feel like the film if real) gets the viewer glued to the film and become unaware of what is going on around them.
most of the shot types in the opening of this film are medium shots with the occasional long shot to allow the viewer to identify where the main character is in the scene. The idea of the medium shots are so that the viewer doesn't feel too far away to the action that they cant get into the film (become board) but at the same time they don't feel too close to the action that the film then becomes a horror as it would scare the audience the medium shot is a perfect balance as it stops the viewer feeling too close or too far away from the action but the director cant just use medium shots as the audience will eventually become board so he has to mix in a few long shots and a few close up shots, the director would put the close up shots just before something happens in the film for example he used a close up on Indiana's face just before he tried to steal the artifact this raises the tension between the viewer and the film however if the director wants to break the tension that has been built for example just after Indiana stole the artifact because the director doesn't want the audience concentrating on Indiana Jones for too long the director would use a long shot allowing the viewer to take a break from all the tension and suspense built it also allows the viewer to establish where Indiana Jones is in the scene.
Indiana Jones relates to the stereotypical stereotype of a archaeologist he is a strong tall male and goes off on adventures, also what he is wearing is stereotypical to someone who is adventurous for example he wears a cowboy hat this suggests that Indiana Jones is American and is from Texas. the cowboy hate he wears sets him a side from the other characters in the scenes in the opening 2 mins as he is the only one wearing a hat this allows the audience to spot him out in the middle of a scene.
in the opening of Indiana Jones there is a lot of non diagetic sound in the background of the film this builds up the tension between the audience and the film notifying the audience that something dramatic is about to happen preparing them for the dramatic thing which in this case is Indiana Jones getting chased by a boulder. the sound goes away for a while then comes back loudly out of nowhere this is because the director wants the audience to feel like the dramatic thing has passed and there is no need to be worried but then when the second dramatic scene comes the viewer is not prepared for it so straight away the viewer is scared of what is about to happen in the film this builds the suspense up quickly saving a lot of time in the film for other shots and scenes.
the first scene is set somewhere dark and damp this suggests that it is underground as there is no natural light in the scene apart from a tiny bit. in the scene there are a lot of plants and there roots growing up the walls this suggests that the cave is not in a barren waste land but instead in a tropical land with a lot of rain and sun the dampness of the cave also shows that it rains a lot in the location of the scene it also suggests that they are underground as the rain is draining through the rocks where as if it was a building out side there would be more sunlight and the rain would drain off instead of having to go through the rocks. as the temple is made out of rock, is underground and rain soaks through the rock this gives the audience the impression the temple has been there a long time and the people that built it didn't have a lot of technology but were good with there hands.
