focus pull
focus pull is when in a shot/scene a object or person is in main focus and the background or foreground is blurred out so that the audience is mainly focused on that object or person. in some cases you could blur out the object or person out of focus and have the background in focus so that the audience is paying attention to the back ground. often in films they switch between them usually the order goes from the background in focus and the fore ground out of focus and then it switches to foreground in focus and background out of focus, this is usually used in a horror film as the viewer would not see the killer or scary thing in the background as it is blurred out until it comes into focus then when the viewer re-watches it they notice it which scares them.
