Robo cop

robo cop

robo cop is a crime thriller. there is android robotic like music in the background to help emphasise the fact that the film is based around a half man half robot cyborg which takes it in to his own hands to deal out the force of the police hence the title "Robo cop" this gets the viewer enticed in the film and excited. most of the opening shots in robo cop are long shots which are to help set the scene for the audience. most shots are in black and Wight this gives an old fashioned feel towards the viewer and it makes the audience get a good idea of when the film is set and not just the where but the when. in the opening sequence of robo cop there are no characters shown so the audience doesn't know who the main character is this adds suspense to the audience because the audience are questioning who is the main character? what does he/she look like? the audience think this in their heads whilst the opening sequence Carry's on . the area of where the shots are taken are basically the same which is in a city of some sort this tells the viewer that the film is mostly set in the city this appeals to the target audience because they enjoy the fact that there are lots of different kinds of people in a small area also the tall buildings emphasises the main character in the way that he is powerful (more powerful than the bad guy). the title of the film is in block capitals this gives a robotic feel towards the film with the audience because old fashioned robots are generally blocks this allows the audience to associate the title of the film with the story line of the main character. the typical audience of robo cop is the older audiences this is because the whole story line of robo cop is old fashioned that only people from that era would understand so teenagers wouldn't really get the whole story however some teenagers enjoy old fashioned based story so you could get young adults watching robo cop however it is mostly dominated by older adults.
the main music is non diagetic this is music that is being played but can not be seen on screen, the music makes the audience feel like the film is a very robust mechanical film which is what the director wanted as it gets the audience straight away feeling excited about the film this builds up the tension and suspense between the viewer and the film. the text shown whilst the film was playing was very thin and the special effects makes it look like it is being typed in to a computer this gives the audience the impression that they are looking through the eyes of a computer or robot because of this the audience knows that they are looking through the eyes of the robo cop which makes them to believe that the robo cop is the main character. most of the shots that were used were either just long shots or extreme long shots this is because the director wants the audience to know what the surrounding environment is like and the director also wants the audience to know where the film is set which in this case is the city which shows the viewer that the robo cop is not just some everyday cop in the middle of nowhere instead he is in charge of protecting the citizens of the city from thugs/ criminals this shows the viewer that this robo cop has a huge responsibility and the viewer can also therefore compare him to a super hero which is exactly what the director wants.
