The dark knight rises & the dark knight

the dark knight rises

the dark knight

both the dark knight and the dark knight rises start off with diagetic sound not non diagetic sound this is because the directors want to build up the suspense of the two films but not raise the tension that is why they haven't put background music into the opening instead using the surrounding noises to build the scene up and raise the suspense of the opening. the dark knight rises uses faint non-diagetic sound in the background to build up a tiny bit of tension as well as suspense where as the dark knight in the opening doesn't use any non diagetic sound and it is mainly no noise at all apart from a soft ring. the first shot in the dark knight is a extreme wide shot this sets the scene for the film the camera also slowly zooms in to a building window making the viewer nervous because they know something is going to happen where as in the dark knight rises the first shot is a low medium shot following a car this suggests to the audience that one of the main characters of the film is in the car and because the car is moving quickly the viewer gets the impression that they are in a hurry for something important which also gives the viewer the impression that the first scene is an important one for the rest of the film this keeps the audience focused on the film. both villains in both films have something iconic on there face to allow the viewer identify that they are the main characters and it also keeps the attention of the audience on the main character, in the dark knight the iconic item on the face of the villain is a clown mask where as in the dark knight rises the iconic item on the villains face is a mask which helps him to breath. the masks give the villains there identity in the film and they represent there characteristics/ personalty for example the clown mask could suggest to the audience that character doesn't take anything seriously and takes everything as a joke where as the other villains mask intimidates the audience and makes the villain look strong and fierce. there is more medium shots in the dark knight rises than there is in the dark knight this is most likely because the director wants to create more suspense and more tension than the dark knight this is because in the dark knight the director doesn't want to build up too much suspense or tension as he wants to keep the viewer thinking about what is going to happen which will keep them focused on the film. the dark knight rises is more action than the dark knight this is because the main villain is big and muscly and is meant to be a mercenary where as the dark knight main villain is meant to be smaller but yet more terrifying hence the silent approach in the opening scene.
