HARRY POTTER and the order of the Phoenix

harry potter and the order of the Phoenix

harry potter and the order of the phoenix is a fantasy film. the film opens with a dark scene which shows the audience that something dark has or is going to happen which raises the tension of the audience this gets them interested in the film. straight away the viewer can tell who the main character is because the first character the audience sees is harry potter how ever the audience doesn't  know this they just assume who he is, the camera shots keep him in the centre of the shots which also help the audience identify him as the main character because the attention is all directed on him. the first thing the viewer sees is the logo of the film company that budgeted the harry potter film this can get the audience wanting to see the film because the viewer may like previous films that the company has made and wanted to see if this one will be any different. the first scene in the sequence is of harry potter in the park on the swing this gives the viewer the impression that the main character is upset and as he is in a park and he is generally too old for the park the audience assumes that he is upset and depressed then the shot shows a gang of bully's the viewer recognises them as bully's because the main character says "beaten up another 10 year old" this makes the viewer despise the people in the gang and because the main character stands up to them the audience warms up to him. the stereotypical representation of the bully's in the opening scene of the film goes with the stereotypical view of them this is shown by the way the bully's seem taller and bigger than the main character also the camera angle of the bully's is a low angle shot this makes the viewer think that the bully's are more powerful than the victim (main character). the lighting around the scene is dim this gives a dark and depressing feel towards this scene and makes the viewer feel like there is a storm or something brewing.
the clothing worn by the characters are just like the stereotype they wear hoodies and short sleeved tops with silver chains around their necks and jeans. the audience sees most of them as bully's trying to pick on this one kid which leads the audience to think they are bully's this makes the audience angry and decide to go on the lonely kids side which also then makes the viewer think that he is the main character. most of the shots used in the opening of the film are medium shots this is so that the film can keep a constant flow and the viewer can stayed concentrating on the film, there are the occasional close ups and long shots but that is just used so the viewer wont get board with the same shot over and over again, the director at the start uses a birds eye view so the audience knows where the main character is straight away the camera then zooms in so the audience will be searching for the area of which the main character is in this keeps the audience entertained and stops them from becoming board, the director also uses wide shots so that the audience can see all the bully's and harry potter in one shot this allows the audience to identify where everyone is in the scene. the director uses a lot of match on action in the confrontation between harry and the bully's as one medium shot would be on harry then one on the bully's then one of a close up of harry then back to the bully's etc, this means that the audience can see that harry is talking to the bully's and not himself this stops the audience from getting confused when trying to watch the film.
the film starts of with non diagetic sound with the theme song music for the film but later on when the audience is first with harry on his own the non diagetic sound becomes quiet and diagetic sounds take its place for example the swings creaking or when the bully's come and speak with harry this makes the audience aware what film they are watching and excited to see it also the diagetic sound makes the viewer feel like they are apart of the film which keeps the excited. when harry and the bully's finish talking the scene goes from really bright to really dim this shows the audience what the main character is feeling inside for example harry wanted to hurt the bully's for teasing him and as he threatened them the whole scene became dark as if  Harry's feelings could be seen from the weather and therefore the audience could see his emotions.
