Influences in the production of our film
influences in the production of our film
we planned to go last weekend which was the 7/12/13 and film the rest of the film that we needed however we could not as Sam fell ill and had to go to hospital so we couldn't film that weekend we could have done it the next day but i was busy doing family things and Sam was still ill. we now plan to go this weekend 14/12/13 and hopefully get all the filming done. another problem that set us back was the fact that our main actor Albert could not make it and he was our main actor and we were using his camera so we couldn't film at all last weekend. when we did go out and film 17/11/13 we couldn't find any police tape which meant we had to delay further however we managed to go to B&Q and find some electrical wire tape which when cut in half looked similar to police tape we also managed to find a instillation suit which looks similar to forensic suits so we used that to create a crime scene feel towards the audience. our media lessons switch between two classes and only one of those classes has the right computer software to edit our footage so it is taking longer than usual to edit our film together which is setting us back even further.

Focus pull
focus pull
focus pull is when in a shot/scene a object or person is in main focus and the background or foreground is blurred out so that the audience is mainly focused on that object or person. in some cases you could blur out the object or person out of focus and have the background in focus so that the audience is paying attention to the back ground. often in films they switch between them usually the order goes from the background in focus and the fore ground out of focus and then it switches to foreground in focus and background out of focus, this is usually used in a horror film as the viewer would not see the killer or scary thing in the background as it is blurred out until it comes into focus then when the viewer re-watches it they notice it which scares them.

Now you see me
now you see me
the opening scene of now you see me shows the audience exotic locations for example the first location the audience sees is a city they can tell this due to the big buildings in the background they establish this location to the audience first using a wide angle long shot and as it is the only location out of the four shown that has had a long wide shot of the location and it was also in the background this would suggest to the viewer that this city the character first shown is in is the main location of the film (it is where most of the film is going to take place) the other locations are still exotic but are not shown off as much for example the audience can only tell that the second location is exotic because of what the characters are wearing for example the main character in this scene is wearing some kind of holiday hat and has a shirt on but no tie suggesting to the audience that he is not there on business but rather more of a relaxed break, in the background there are exotic leaves which is the only give away that they are in a exotic country but you don't see allot of it as it is poring down with rain which creates a fog like cover over the leaves which shows the humidity in the exotic country. the third location in the opening sequence is in a city again however this time its on a boat with less crowds suggesting that the main character who is suppose to be the next best magician isn't that popular or well known to the public which makes the viewers feel sorry for him when another character ruins his trick by working it out but just like in a real magic trick the viewers were fooled into thinking the main character lost $100 when what they didn't see was the main character stole the other characters wallet and watch making a fool out of that other character this makes the viewer interested in how he did it and because they sided with him earlier in the scene they felt happy that he got the other characters money it also makes the audience feel like it was part of the plan all along. the fourth location was not in a open area on show to massive crowds or anyone who walked passed instead it was in a warehouse of some sort and people had to pay to see this magician this doesn't tell the audience if its in a exotic location or not however it does tell the audience that the character performing magic tricks is popular and therefore must be good at them it also tells the audience that she doesn't have to steal money like the past two characters who have been forced to blackmail or pick pocket money off people suggesting that they are not rich and are not well known for their magic. the type of people who come to see this character seem to be teenagers and young adults this can be told by what they are wearing as most of them are wearing hoodies and shirts with jeans where as older adults don't typically wear that sort of clothing this suggests that the film is targeted at a young audience teenagers and young adults this is because the younger audiences can relate the characters in the film with themselves making the audience more interested in the film.
most of the shots in the opening sequence of the film are close up shots this is because the director wants to build up tension whilst the magic tricks are taking place which adds to the suspense in the film making the viewer interested in how the magic tricks are done, in some cases there are extreme close ups to build the tension quickly between the audience and the film creating very tens moments in the opening of the film making the viewer wonder if the magic trick will be a success or not or if something dramatic is about to happen in the film. the idea of the close up shots is so that the viewer can feel like they know whats going to happen with the trick and to make the viewer feel like they know how the tricks are done but just like the saying in the film the closer you look the less you see and as the trick becomes revealed the viewer is amazed at how it was done (plot twist) for example at the beginning when one of the main characters had a pack of cards the viewer thought he was going to do a simple card trick when actually he ended up making the girls card appear on the side of the building which shocked the viewer and made them feel as if the magic trick was done in real life in front of them which was the aim of the director to bring the audience in to the film.
in the beginning of the film there is a lot of shot reverse shots used to establish with the audience who the main character is talking to, the shot reverse shots are used to allow a consistent flow of dialogue which the audience can follow this creates the flow of the scene and allows each shot to flow together making the film seem real to the audience. as well as shot reverse shot another technique was used in the opening of the film and was one of the first the audience saw but did not notice this was called focus pull this is where the camera blurs out the background and keeps the foreground in focus or the other way around making the audience with out even realising it focus on the characters/objects in the foreground or the characters/objects in the background and sometimes within a single shot the focus pull can change either from background to foreground or foreground to background it can do this as many times as it wants just like in the opening scene of the film where the focus pull kept switching between one of the main characters and the deck of cards this makes sure the audience is focused on the magic trick and nothing else.

Iron man
iron man
the opening scene starts of directly in the action so the audience are interested in the film before it has started and it will keep them glued to the film. the main character bosses the other characters around him (the soldiers) this shows the audience that he is not under arrest but being protected which intern also shows that he is important and maybe powerful (rich).
the target audience for iron man is teenage audiences and young adults but however older adults can be attracted to the film because they might have grown up reading iron man comics and they want to see it become a film this apply's for teenage audiences and young adults however it appeals to teenagers most because the film contains alot of fast pace action and some clever puns put in where necessary which would appeal to older audiences as well, the typical gender would be male because it is normally males that read comics and men enjoy the fast pace storyline of the film, some girls may go see the film but it would mostly be male audiences. the stereotypical representation of soldiers in the opening 2 mins of iron man goes against the stereotypical view this is because the soldiers seem more relaxed and skinny rather than muscular and on edge this makes the viewer appeal more towards the soldiers and when they get killed the viewer is against the killers (the viewer thinks the soldiers as positive and the killers as negative). the main character is wearing a smart suit which shows that he has alot of money where as the soldiers are wearing uniform suggesting that they are there for him and because of the friendly talk between them it shows the audience that the soldiers are there to protect him and not to guard him as there prisoner this also shows the audience that because he is being guarded that he must be very important and powerful and possibly rich. at the start the mood of the film is calm and relaxed and the main character acts like a cocky know it all and the soldiers treat him like a celebrity but once the bullets start firing he becomes scared and looks towards the soldiers for help and suddenly the mood swings to fast pace action which raises the tension which gets the viewer more into the film. the cocky approach makes the viewer warm towards that character because he is not too cocky that the viewer would hate him but just enough that it is funny.
Indiana jones raiders of the lost ark
Indiana Jones
as tension builds in the opening scenes the camera zooms into Indiana's face showing the audience the surprise that character has when something dramatic happens in the film and the camera zooms out when the tension/ suspense has gone this notifies the audience that the danger has gone and that they can relax and because of this the viewer feels like they are apart of the film which makes the film look real from the viewers point of view, by including the viewer in the film (making them feel like the film if real) gets the viewer glued to the film and become unaware of what is going on around them.
most of the shot types in the opening of this film are medium shots with the occasional long shot to allow the viewer to identify where the main character is in the scene. The idea of the medium shots are so that the viewer doesn't feel too far away to the action that they cant get into the film (become board) but at the same time they don't feel too close to the action that the film then becomes a horror as it would scare the audience the medium shot is a perfect balance as it stops the viewer feeling too close or too far away from the action but the director cant just use medium shots as the audience will eventually become board so he has to mix in a few long shots and a few close up shots, the director would put the close up shots just before something happens in the film for example he used a close up on Indiana's face just before he tried to steal the artifact this raises the tension between the viewer and the film however if the director wants to break the tension that has been built for example just after Indiana stole the artifact because the director doesn't want the audience concentrating on Indiana Jones for too long the director would use a long shot allowing the viewer to take a break from all the tension and suspense built it also allows the viewer to establish where Indiana Jones is in the scene.
Indiana Jones relates to the stereotypical stereotype of a archaeologist he is a strong tall male and goes off on adventures, also what he is wearing is stereotypical to someone who is adventurous for example he wears a cowboy hat this suggests that Indiana Jones is American and is from Texas. the cowboy hate he wears sets him a side from the other characters in the scenes in the opening 2 mins as he is the only one wearing a hat this allows the audience to spot him out in the middle of a scene.
in the opening of Indiana Jones there is a lot of non diagetic sound in the background of the film this builds up the tension between the audience and the film notifying the audience that something dramatic is about to happen preparing them for the dramatic thing which in this case is Indiana Jones getting chased by a boulder. the sound goes away for a while then comes back loudly out of nowhere this is because the director wants the audience to feel like the dramatic thing has passed and there is no need to be worried but then when the second dramatic scene comes the viewer is not prepared for it so straight away the viewer is scared of what is about to happen in the film this builds the suspense up quickly saving a lot of time in the film for other shots and scenes.
the first scene is set somewhere dark and damp this suggests that it is underground as there is no natural light in the scene apart from a tiny bit. in the scene there are a lot of plants and there roots growing up the walls this suggests that the cave is not in a barren waste land but instead in a tropical land with a lot of rain and sun the dampness of the cave also shows that it rains a lot in the location of the scene it also suggests that they are underground as the rain is draining through the rocks where as if it was a building out side there would be more sunlight and the rain would drain off instead of having to go through the rocks. as the temple is made out of rock, is underground and rain soaks through the rock this gives the audience the impression the temple has been there a long time and the people that built it didn't have a lot of technology but were good with there hands.
DREDD
dredd
dredd is a action/science fiction film. At the opening 2 mins of the film it concentrates most of the shots on the scene of where the film is supposedly based this makes the viewer aware of what is going on in the scene they have done this by using extreme long shots panning around the city viewing the mega blocks so that the viewer knows straight away what the area where the film is based is like. During the opening 2 mins of the film there is the occasional close up of one character on parts of his body (e.g. shoulder) whilst this character talks this give the viewer the impression that he is the main character of the film and he also is the hero of the film not the bad guy or the evil villain. The light is coming in from the right hand side lighting up the mega blocks which highlights the mega blocks from the rest of the scene which catches the viewers eye and keeps the focus on the mega block, showing that the director wants to show the viewer something which will give the viewer information about the film which also keeps them glued to the screen constantly watching the footage. in the opening the camera shows a lot of buildings which suggests to the audience that it is being filmed in a city the gigantic feel you get from the building with tiny building in the background suggests to the audience that it is based in the future because you don't see gigantic buildings like that in present city's this give the viewer an alien feel towards the film which makes them think that it is science fiction. in the opening sequence the viewer sees parts of the main character, the viewer can tell he is the main character because the camera shots have been edited so that the opening sequence keeps referring back to the part of that person suggesting that he is the main character.
the first shot the viewer sees is a extreme long shot of the city being lighted up by the sun this shows the viewer what the area is like and where the film is based it also shows the audience the barren waste land outside of the city giving them an idea of what it is like. most of the shots that were used in the opening of the film were long shots showing the city and the residents inside it this gave the viewer an understanding of what the areas in the city are like for example there were riots shown this shows the viewer that some parts of the city are not safe.
most of the clothing the sub characters were wearing were just like the clothing we wear today allowing the viewer to relate to the film, this frightens the viewer and makes them think that this is what their world will come to. some of the characters appeared to be wearing rags compared to others this suggests that the people rioting are poor and they are taking it out on the rich. there are police wearing riot shields and Armour just like in modern society today which also allows the audience to relate and make them think of the rioting in London or some other rioting this also gets the viewer interested but scared at the same time. whilst the opening sequence continues there are short bursts of medium to close up shots of a character which suggests to the audience that he is the guy who is speaking which goes on to suggest that he is the main character. the clothing he is wearing is better than what the rioting police are wearing this suggests he is not your average policeman it also suggests that he is a higher rank and therefore has better gear than the riot control police.
the sound is mostly non diagetic in the opening of the film the most dominant sound is of the main character talking this shows that he is the main character the audience can tell this because whilst the shots being showed included a range of locations the sequence of shots kept going back to this one character whilst the non diagetic sound of him talking was on suggesting to the audience that he is the main character. whilst the opening sequence continued as well as the main characters voice there was background music to add to the tension of the film it also made the voice of the main character seem more serious towards the audience making them glued to the screen wanting to know what happens next.
in the opening sequences of shots there was an extreme close up on the main characters gun, the director did this on purpose because he wanted the audience to know even though it seems similar to our time there technology in the film was far more advanced allowing the audience a sigh of relief before the film title comes up, the director also showed the gun so that the viewer new that the main character had a gun and that it needed a specific DNA code to hold the gun preparing the audience for what will happen later on in the film. when they finally showed the main character from a long shot so the audience could see what he looked like the scene was dark with light coming into the scene from above shinning off his helmet allowing only the outlines of the main character to be shown keeping the suspense with the audience. when the film title finally came up it was designed to make the viewer jump as the music became really loud and the title took the viewer by surprise as the director on purpose got rid of the suspense and tension to allow the viewer to relax before scaring them.
Shawshank redemption
shawshank redemption
the audience can easily tell who is the main character in shawshank redemption because the first character we see is Andy Dufresne this tells the audience that he plays an important role in the story line of the film also it can tell the audience the plot of them film as he is seen with a gun on his lap this tells the viewer that he is going to kill someone which raises suspicion as to who is it that he wants to kill which again is a classical mystery in a crime thriller.
in the opening of this old time classic it begins with the titles first which were thin and wight with a black background so that the text will stand out to the audience. whilst the titles were being played there was non diagetic sound being played the sound was of an old song which sounded like it was being played off an old radio of some sort this gives the audience the impression that the film is set in the early 20th century. the titles then fade out and the first shot fades in its of a house this keeps suspicion to the viewer as they don't know who's house that is but they do know that it is going to be important, the shot that is used is a long shot this is used to establish the setting of the first scene the camera then pans up and along the side of a car showing the main character of the film, the audience knows that he is the main character because he is in the centre of the shot and is the only character in the scene, when the audience first sees him he is staring at the house previously shown this suggests to the audience that he is up to no good and he is about to break the law.the main character is first shown in a medium shot so that it keeps the audience suspicious of what he is up to it then changes to a close up of the main character pulling out a gun at that point the audience knows for certain that he is about to commit murder to someone in that house but then the audience sees that he has alcohol in his hand at that point the audience then know that it is either against his will that he is about to kill someone or because he is drunk he is about to kill someone. the main character is wearing a suit which suggests that he is not poor and that he is quite stable this tells the audience that it isn't because of money he is about to kill someone. whilst the main characters in the car there is a medium low angle shot looking up at him and at that point he turns off the radio suggesting to the audience that it is time he is about to kill someone, the light in that shot is coming from the bottom left of the screen which lights up the main characters face and makes him look creepy towards the audience.
James Bond quantum of solace
James bond- quantum of solace
in the opening of the film it starts of with an extreme long shot across clear water towards a tunnel where there is a car chase going on, the long shot shows the audience that the film is based in a exotic location. the camera starts to go towards the tunnel and whilst it does the shots frequently change to close ups of part of the cars that are involved in the fast pace action chase and in some occasions there would be an extreme close up of a characters face or hand to show the tension build up with the characters. it is mainly close ups and the odd medium shot as the director wants the audience to feel like they are apart of the action as well. there is mostly non diagetic music being played in the background whilst the chase scene takes place the music has a fast beat to it and calms down slowly towards the end once James bond has escaped the music played makes the audience worried whilst the chase is taking place and also makes them relax after James bond has got away. there is also diagetic sound being played louder than the non diagetic sound and this is all the guns firing and the engines roaring as James bond trys to get away this makes the viewer feel like it is all going on around them which raises the tension between the audience and the film. the main actor is wearing a suit which suggests that he is a professional at what he does it also suggests to the audience that he is the main character. all the cars are chasing just one which also suggests to the audience the person in that car must be the main character making them rout for the person in that car to get away.
Star Trek into darkness
star trek into darkness
the opening scene starts off in the middle of a chase scene this gets the audience thinking what is going on? and what is happening? also because it jumps straight into an action scene it gives the viewer a sense of realism and this triggers a rush of adrenaline making the viewer feel excited which gets them enjoying the film even more, because the film has a lot of fast pace action the film appeals to male audiences however the female audiences would equally enjoy it.
the first shot fades in to the opening of the film and it is an extreme long shot the director used this shot so that straight away the viewer can see that they are on an alien planet the camera then zooms in and picks out a certain character which suggests to the audience that he is the main character, when the audience first see him he is running away from the local life on the planet suggesting to the audience that he has done something wrong. the camera shots stay mostly between medium and close up but show the occasional long shot to establish where the characters are in the scene there was a extreme close up shown in the opening of the film and this was of the warning shown on a computer screen this was shown because the director wanted the audience to know that the ship was going to crash.
the technology shown in the opening of the film is way more advanced than the local life on the planet suggesting that they are not from the same planet the local life have their faces painted and use spears as weapons where as the other species use advanced guns and teleportation devices this suggests to the audience that they are a very primitive species and still have much to learn. due to the facts that one species is advanced and the other is primitive suggests to the viewer that they are not from the same planet which then goes on to suggest that they are so advanced that they have learnt how to travel through space.
the opening of the film goes straight into a fast pace chase scene this makes the viewer think that the whole film is going to be a chase scene. the chase scene being the first thing the audience sees gets the audience straight away in to the film it means that they wont be board because the film is taking a long time to become exciting and adventurous.
Inception
inception
the first sequence of shots are mainly close ups of one particular character which straight away tells the audience that he is the main character. the audience can see that he has just been washed up on shore and the audience is confused as to how he got there this adds suspense to the film keeping the audience interested in how the film is going the play out. some long shots are used but not many only when the audience needs to see where the main character is in the scene. the audience can see its sunny and the main character is on a beach which suggests to the viewer that this was filmed in a exotic location. the main character is wearing a suit which suggests that he is a professional and he is rich it also shows that he has some class. when he is in a meeting with a colleague the lighting is coming in from the left lighting up the characters faces but not the whole scene this keeps the concentration of the audience on the characters which is important for later on in the story. at the beginning whilst the film productions came up there was non diagetic sound being played this gets the audience excited for the film.
Goodfellas
goodfellas
towards the end of the clip the audience finds out that there is a body in the boot of the car at first the audience thinks that it is a surprise to them as it is to the audience thinking that someone else put that guy in there but as it turns out the audience were surprised that they tryed killing him failed and then stabbed him countless times and shot him this tells the audience that they are not to be messed with and that they are criminals. at the very end of the film the last shot is a medium shot and the diagetic sound becomes non diagetic and some guy starts talking the camera then zooms in on a specific guy this tells the viewer not only he is the main character but also the leader of the group of criminals. as they were sitting in the car the light was coming into the scene from the right hand side lighting up all the characters faces this makes the audience feel like they are just a normal group of friends driving somewhere.
HARRY POTTER and the order of the Phoenix
harry potter and the order of the Phoenix
the clothing worn by the characters are just like the stereotype they wear hoodies and short sleeved tops with silver chains around their necks and jeans. the audience sees most of them as bully's trying to pick on this one kid which leads the audience to think they are bully's this makes the audience angry and decide to go on the lonely kids side which also then makes the viewer think that he is the main character. most of the shots used in the opening of the film are medium shots this is so that the film can keep a constant flow and the viewer can stayed concentrating on the film, there are the occasional close ups and long shots but that is just used so the viewer wont get board with the same shot over and over again, the director at the start uses a birds eye view so the audience knows where the main character is straight away the camera then zooms in so the audience will be searching for the area of which the main character is in this keeps the audience entertained and stops them from becoming board, the director also uses wide shots so that the audience can see all the bully's and harry potter in one shot this allows the audience to identify where everyone is in the scene. the director uses a lot of match on action in the confrontation between harry and the bully's as one medium shot would be on harry then one on the bully's then one of a close up of harry then back to the bully's etc, this means that the audience can see that harry is talking to the bully's and not himself this stops the audience from getting confused when trying to watch the film.
the film starts of with non diagetic sound with the theme song music for the film but later on when the audience is first with harry on his own the non diagetic sound becomes quiet and diagetic sounds take its place for example the swings creaking or when the bully's come and speak with harry this makes the audience aware what film they are watching and excited to see it also the diagetic sound makes the viewer feel like they are apart of the film which keeps the excited. when harry and the bully's finish talking the scene goes from really bright to really dim this shows the audience what the main character is feeling inside for example harry wanted to hurt the bully's for teasing him and as he threatened them the whole scene became dark as if Harry's feelings could be seen from the weather and therefore the audience could see his emotions.
Skyfall
James bond- sky-fall
the opening of the film starts with a long shot of the main character this is so the audience can straight away see who the main character is, the audience knows he is the main character because he is positioned in the middle of the shot giving him the overall attention of the viewer. the director has used focus pull on the first shot blurring out the whole shot to keep the audience interested on what is going to happen and the audience doesn't know for sure that is the main character James bond which keeps the suspense up.
the film starts off with a sudden non diagetic sound catching the viewer by surprise getting the tension up between the viewer and the film straight away this keeps the viewer interested and glued to the film then the music goes silent allowing the viewer to relax but then it changes to diagetic sound making the viewer feel like they are apart of the film getting them excited for what is about to happen in the film. the main character is wearing a suit whilst carrying a gun this suggests to the audience that he is killer but is professional about it, it also suggests that he works for powerful people.
Robo cop
robo cop
the main music is non diagetic this is music that is being played but can not be seen on screen, the music makes the audience feel like the film is a very robust mechanical film which is what the director wanted as it gets the audience straight away feeling excited about the film this builds up the tension and suspense between the viewer and the film. the text shown whilst the film was playing was very thin and the special effects makes it look like it is being typed in to a computer this gives the audience the impression that they are looking through the eyes of a computer or robot because of this the audience knows that they are looking through the eyes of the robo cop which makes them to believe that the robo cop is the main character. most of the shots that were used were either just long shots or extreme long shots this is because the director wants the audience to know what the surrounding environment is like and the director also wants the audience to know where the film is set which in this case is the city which shows the viewer that the robo cop is not just some everyday cop in the middle of nowhere instead he is in charge of protecting the citizens of the city from thugs/ criminals this shows the viewer that this robo cop has a huge responsibility and the viewer can also therefore compare him to a super hero which is exactly what the director wants.
Scream
scream
the lighting in the opening sequence of shots is dim this creates suspicion and tension between the audience and the film. the lighting mainly lights up the girls face this shows the audience that she is the main character the audience can also tell she is the main character because she is kept in the centre of the shot in most of the shots. the audience becomes suddenly worried when the music goes from almost complete silence to loud scary music this is non diagetic it is used to keep the audience focused on the film and to build up the suspense of the film. the house the music constantly changes between diagetic and non diagetic music this is because the director wants the audience to relax after every burst of tension this builds the tension quickly and saves time for other shots and scenes. once the music goes silent the audience prepares for something dramatic and frightening to happen but nothing does this is because the director wants to build up suspense as much as possible so that the audience are staying focused on the film however the director also uses the diagetic music to keep the audience from becoming too scared to watch the film. the director normally uses close up shots and medium shots with the occasional long shot to release the tension from the viewer, the close ups are frequent as the director wants the audience to feel close to the action so that they can share the same experience as the girl in the film which would raise the tension between the audience and the film, the medium shots are used to keep the tension there but give the audience a break from the rise in tension also they are used so that the audience wont get board seeing the same shots over and over again of the close up shots.
Man of steel
man of steel
man of steal is aimed at a wide range of audiences but mainly teenagers and young adults it is also mainly aimed at a male audience but the occasional female can view it. it targets the male audience because the male audience likes fighting scenes and they enjoy being made to feel like a hero where as the typical female audience enjoys romantic films where there is hardly any fighting this is why the film has a lot of fighting in it and as the younger audiences (teenagers and young adults) are more destructive than older audiences it appeals to them more because they can relate to it.
the film begins with alot of long shots this is because the director wants to quickly tell the audience who "super man" is and how he got to earth so the audience is prepared for the story however the film is aimed at the fans of superman so it is generally for the people who have never seen a superman movie or read the superman comic books it also allows the audience to see where the film is set and based it also allows the fans of superman to see and identify the locations of which super man has been famous for, for example the daily planet in metropolis. the music in superman is non diagetic the theme music is dominant but there is speech speaking about superman this is to get the audience including the fans of super man to be excited for the film to actually start. the last shot finally showed super man after a close up of his chest the shot of his chest was to hold the suspense between the audience and the film because the audience really wants to see what the man of steel (superman) looks like. as super man is shown the shot is a wide long shot this is so the audience can see the main character over looking the city this tells the viewer straight away that he is the main character and he has to protect the city from harm, the viewer can tell that he is the main character because he is the first character to be shown in full view and he had a close up on him so that the viewer could identify that he was the main character. when the camera was showing long shots of various locations the lighting used was all naturally made by the sun this lights up the whole scene and grabs the viewers attention.
whilst the film was playing the text that came up was thin this is so the viewer is mainly concentrating on the scene and not the text because the scene is more important where as when the film title came up it was with a black background this is so it would catch the viewers eye when watching the film, to make sure that the film title grabbed the viewers attention the main title was made to look silver and shiny just like steal which makes the audience compare the actual title of the film "MAN OF STEAL" with what it looks like so the audience can focus on it more.

both the dark knight and the dark knight rises start off with diagetic sound not non diagetic sound this is because the directors want to build up the suspense of the two films but not raise the tension that is why they haven't put background music into the opening instead using the surrounding noises to build the scene up and raise the suspense of the opening. the dark knight rises uses faint non-diagetic sound in the background to build up a tiny bit of tension as well as suspense where as the dark knight in the opening doesn't use any non diagetic sound and it is mainly no noise at all apart from a soft ring. the first shot in the dark knight is a extreme wide shot this sets the scene for the film the camera also slowly zooms in to a building window making the viewer nervous because they know something is going to happen where as in the dark knight rises the first shot is a low medium shot following a car this suggests to the audience that one of the main characters of the film is in the car and because the car is moving quickly the viewer gets the impression that they are in a hurry for something important which also gives the viewer the impression that the first scene is an important one for the rest of the film this keeps the audience focused on the film. both villains in both films have something iconic on there face to allow the viewer identify that they are the main characters and it also keeps the attention of the audience on the main character, in the dark knight the iconic item on the face of the villain is a clown mask where as in the dark knight rises the iconic item on the villains face is a mask which helps him to breath. the masks give the villains there identity in the film and they represent there characteristics/ personalty for example the clown mask could suggest to the audience that character doesn't take anything seriously and takes everything as a joke where as the other villains mask intimidates the audience and makes the villain look strong and fierce. there is more medium shots in the dark knight rises than there is in the dark knight this is most likely because the director wants to create more suspense and more tension than the dark knight this is because in the dark knight the director doesn't want to build up too much suspense or tension as he wants to keep the viewer thinking about what is going to happen which will keep them focused on the film. the dark knight rises is more action than the dark knight this is because the main villain is big and muscly and is meant to be a mercenary where as the dark knight main villain is meant to be smaller but yet more terrifying hence the silent approach in the opening scene.
Troy
troy
troy is a romance/history/adventure film it is aimed at male audiences due to all the fighting but it can be aimed towards the female audiences because of all the romance in it the age targeted by the film is young and old adults as they understand what is happening in the film because they know the story's of troy where as the younger audiences would get board watching the film as they would not fully understand what is going on in the film.
almost every shot used was a medium shot this is because the director wanted a consistent flow of shots also he didn't want the viewer to concentrate on anything else but the two men fighting, the director didn't use too many different shots because he wanted the audience to see how easy it was for one of the men to kill the other keeping the fight really simple and plain. the director used diagetic sound whilst the fight was going on this made the viewer feel apart of the film also it also allowed the viewer to see how both army's were dead quite at the suspense of who was going to win the fight. the lighting used in the film was natural lighting from the sun this gave the viewer a sense of how hot it was in the film making the viewer feel more and more like they are in the film.
The dark knight
the dark knight
the dark knight is a action/adventure/ drama film it targets a male audience of mainly teenagers and young adults it appeals more to males than to females because males enjoy watching gun fights and action packed films because they can relate to it with their feelings inside where as females prefer romance films as they can relate to it better than an action film.
the clothing the characters are wearing are just everyday clothing for example jeans this shows the audience that the thugs robbing the bank are not professionals and don't care about their appearance they just care about the money however the people hired to run the bank are wearing suits which suggests to the audience that it is a very high end bank meaning that they have a lot of money which is why they are being robbed. at this point in the film the audience cant really tell who is the main character until one of the bank robbers says "he thinks he can just sit out on the job and still take a slice" this makes the viewer think that the boss who hired the bank robbers is the main character but as the bank robber said he isn't there but then the bank robbers start to kill each other making the viewer suspect that the boss has a cunning plan to take all the money for himself then towards the end the main character reveals himself to the audience and he is at gun point, keeping the main character out of the opening scenes raises the suspense between the audience and the film this also raises the tension of the film and to raise the tension even further the director has used close up shots to make the viewer feel closer to the action. the opening shot was a long high angle shot this allows the viewer straight away to see where the characters are and where the film is based. in the background there is a very faint non diagetic music being played this raises the suspense as this notifies the viewer when something bad is about to happen getting the tension between the viewer and the film up quickly.
Now you see me & inception
now you see me
inception
compared to inception now you see me is similar in openings but different at the same time as in each opening opens differently but includes similar stuff for example now you see me and inception both when opening focuses on the main character/characters this is common in most opening scenes however something that differs from inception and now you see me is the area in which the scene is set, inception opens on to a beach with the main character lying there and now you see me because there are multiple main characters the opening switches to each main character in a different scene but all doing magic tricks this shows the audience that they don't know each other yet they all have something in conmen magic. most crime films don't have much non diagetic sound instead they use diagetic sounds to make the audience feel connected with the story and make the story feel real for example in the opening of inception the main sound is the sea and the seagulls out side of frame whilst focusing on the main character this makes the viewer feel as if the scene was real also the noise of the sea and the seagulls helps the audience to recognise where the scene is set (on the beach in this case) similar to inception now you see me also mostly contains diagetic sound because it is mostly the characters talking this would make the viewer feel as if the characters are talking to them and because of this the audience are made to believe that the film is real. in a crime film the main characters are normally dressed neatly and not scruffy this is proved in inception and now you see me because the main character in inception is dressed in a suit and eating dinner politely showing that he has good table manors and just like inception now you see me the main characters are dressed neatly to there role and not scuffed up this is so that the audience warms up to them identifying them as the main characters it also suggest to the audience that they are important.

Our production company name
our production company name
we have decided to create our own production company for our film instead of using a already existing film company. our production company is going to be called last post studios we were going to make it last post production however by coincidence it is already a film company so we had to change it from productions to studio's. to come up with the actual name of our film we took the first letter from each of our forenames and re-arranged it to make the word LAST (Luke,Ashley,Sam,Thomas). our actual logo of our film production company is a bugle this is because the bugle is the instrument which is played at the funeral for fallen soldiers the traditional song which is normally played is the last post which is also where we got the name from.
